“Disquiet” takes its name from a collection of proes by Portuguese poet, Fernando Pessoa, whose writings about aloneness, inclement weather, and yearning furnished my imagination for this project.
The composed vignettes and improvisations were conceived to explore the expressive possibilities of the Una Corda, a one-string-per-note piano developed by Finnish instrument builder David Klavins and Nils Frahm.
Masa Kamaguchi (bass) and RJ Miller (drums) levitated this spontaneous afternoon encounter, co-produced by Shahzad Ismaily, at Figure 8 Studios in Brooklyn, where the only known Una Corda resides stateside.

Probably my favorite jazz pianist in the game right now. I became obsessed with Sam’s playing through his work with Ambrose Akinmusire, especially on Rift in Decorum, their live record from The Village Vanguard. I’ve been listening to Sam’s other solo album, Interludes, on repeat and it’s a gem. Thankful to finally find HARMONY on Bandcamp and to dive in. The compositions are beautiful, soulful, and idiosyncratic. My hat’s off. Jonathan Reid
Pretty much everything. The playing is incredible and the compositions lovely. But most of all I love the intensity of listening, joy and collaboration that oozes from every piece. Three of today's finest jazz musicians who were clearly thirsting for live co-creation and pull off a masterpiece on this album. tjsimon1
